The blurb on the back cover
When I find a book that looks interesting enough or sounds like something I might enjoy, I almost always instantly turn it over and have a skim over the blurb. If I like what I see I would stop, go back to the top and start thoroughly reading through analysing every sentence with the utmost care. I do this because the blurb for me is where the decision is made whether the book is going to go back on the shelves or coming home with me. This is why a good blurb is so crucial as there is nothing worse for a reader than reading a book that they won't like or enjoy. Unfortunately "The hitchhikers guide to the galaxy," isn't a good example of this process I usually go through to pick a book as I picked this book purely on other peoples experience with it and the fact that it is a true classic. But after finishing the book and admiring that short felt time of achievement I noticed what appeared to be a mistake at the end of the blurb. The mistake was from the statement" Volume one in the trilogy of five." I'm not sure if this was intentional but from what i've learnt from my 8 years of school "trilogy," means three not five.
